Question 1

How many gallons do I realistically need for my project?

Accepted Answer

The coverage can vary based on surface porosity and texture. While the label provides a standard estimate, many users on DIY forums recommend buying 10-20% more than you calculate, especially for rough surfaces like concrete foundations. For a typical residential shed roof (approx. 100 sq ft), one gallon is often sufficient for two coats. It's always better to have a little left over for touch-ups.

Question 2

I'm a total beginner. Is this product DIY-friendly?

Accepted Answer

Yes, but with preparation. The biggest tip from experienced users is to watch application videos online first. Use inexpensive roller covers and brushes you can dispose of, as cleanup is challenging. Apply thin, even coats rather than one thick layer to avoid drips and ensure proper curing. Proper surface cleaning is 90% of the success.

Question 3

Is the higher price worth it compared to traditional roof tar or other sealants?

Accepted Answer

Based on thousands of reviews, the consensus is yes for long-term, flexible waterproofing. Users consistently report that while the upfront cost is higher, Liquid Rubber outperforms cheaper tar or asphalt-based products by remaining flexible and not becoming brittle over time. It's praised for sealing complex areas (like around vents) where rolled materials fail.

Question 4

What surfaces can I use this on, and what preparation is required?

Accepted Answer

It adheres well to metal roofs, concrete foundations, wood, EPDM rubber, and even PVC gutters. The key is surface preparation: it must be clean, dry, and free of loose debris, oil, or flaking old coating. On smooth metal, a light scuffing with sandpaper can improve adhesion. It should not be applied over actively leaking or constantly submerged areas.

Question 5

How long does it take to dry, and can I walk on it after?

Accepted Answer

Drying time is highly weather-dependent. In ideal conditions (70°F and low humidity), it may be dry to the touch in 4-8 hours. However, users in humid climates report it can take 24-48 hours. Full curing for foot traffic takes about 48-72 hours. We recommend checking the weather forecast and allowing extra time for cooler or damper conditions to avoid tracking or damaging the fresh coating.
