Question 1

Is this soil mix suitable for all my indoor plants, or is it specialized?

Accepted Answer

This mix is specially formulated for tropical plants that require excellent drainage and aeration, like Monsteras, Philodendrons, and Alocasia. It's a favorite among aroid collectors on social media for preventing root rot. However, it's often too chunky and fast-draining for plants that prefer consistently moist soil (like ferns) or for very small seedlings.

Question 2

I've seen comments about bugs. Is this a common issue, and how can I prevent it?

Accepted Answer

While not universal, some users have reported fungus gnats in newly opened bags, which can occur with any organic potting mix. To prevent issues, we recommend storing bags in a dry place and, as a precaution, you can lightly moisten the mix and heat it in a sealed, oven-safe container at 200°F for 20-30 minutes before use to eliminate any potential larvae.

Question 3

How many bags will I need for my plant? The 8qt bag looks small.

Accepted Answer

This is a common pre-purchase question. An 8-quart bag is ideal for one large repotting project (e.g., a 10-12 inch pot) or a couple of smaller pots. For reference, many Reddit users mention needing 2-3 bags for a very large, established Monstera. Always check your pot's volume and consider ordering an extra bag to be safe.

Question 4

Can I use this straight from the bag, or do I need to add anything?

Accepted Answer

It's ready to use right out of the bag! The blend of chunky pine bark, perlite, and other components is pre-mixed to provide the ideal structure. Many happy customers on TikTok show themselves using it directly. You only need to add amendments if you have a plant with very specific needs outside of typical aroid care.

Question 5

My plant is thriving, but the soil dries out very fast. Is this normal?

Accepted Answer

Yes, that's by design! The chunky texture provides superb aeration, which means it drains quickly and doesn't stay soggy—this is exactly what prevents root rot in tropical plants. It may require more frequent watering, especially in terracotta pots or in dry climates. This is a sign the mix is working correctly to keep roots healthy and oxygenated.
