Question 1

Does the eero 7 really cover up to 4,000 sq. ft., and will it work in a house with thick walls?

Accepted Answer

The 4,000 sq. ft. coverage is a strong estimate for an open floor plan. In homes with many interior walls, especially older construction with plaster or brick, the effective range per unit may be less. The beauty of a mesh system is that you can easily add another beacon (node) to strengthen the signal in problem areas. Most users report a dramatic reduction or elimination of dead zones.

Question 2

I have gigabit internet. Will I get the full speed on my devices?

Accepted Answer

You'll get excellent, reliable whole-home speed, but it's important to manage expectations. The "up to 2.5 Gbps" refers to the router's maximum supported internet plan and its internal wired connections. For Wi-Fi, real-world speeds on a single device (like a laptop or phone) typically range between 600 Mbps to 1.2 Gbps close to the router, which is still blazing fast for all household activities. The system excels at distributing high-speed connectivity to *all* your devices simultaneously.

Question 3

How easy is the setup, and do I need a tech background?

Accepted Answer

This is where the eero 7 shines. The setup is famously user-friendly, guided entirely by the eero app. You simply plug in the units, scan a QR code, and follow the instructions. Most users are up and running in under 10 minutes without any technical knowledge. It's a major point of praise in online reviews.

Question 4

I've heard these can get hot. Is overheating a serious problem?

Accepted Answer

It's a common observation that the units can feel warm to the touch during operation, which is normal for many electronics. To ensure optimal performance and longevity, we recommend placing them in an open, well-ventilated area—not inside a cabinet, on top of other hot electronics, or stacked. Providing a few inches of clearance on all sides is the best practice to manage heat.

Question 5

Is the eero Secure subscription required, or is the free app enough for most people?

Accepted Answer

The free eero app provides all the essentials: setup, network monitoring, guest access, and basic parental controls like pausing the internet. The eero Secure+ subscription unlocks advanced features like ad blocking, threat scanning, content filters (for adult sites), and activity reports. Many families find the free tier perfectly sufficient, while others value the added security and control of the paid plan. You can start with the free app and decide later if you need the upgrade.
