Question 1

How sweet is this trehalose compared to regular sugar? Can I use it as a 1:1 substitute?

Accepted Answer

Trehalose is about 45% as sweet as table sugar. This means you'll likely need to use more to achieve the same level of sweetness in recipes, so it's not a direct 1:1 volume-for-volume swap. Many users in reviews suggest starting with about twice the amount and adjusting to taste. Its strength lies in its clean flavor and functional benefits, not its intense sweetness.

Question 2

I’ve seen claims about blood sugar and skin health. What are the actual benefits, and how much should I use?

Accepted Answer

Trehalose is prized for its low glycemic index, meaning it has a minimal impact on blood glucose levels, which is why it's popular in diabetic and low-carb communities. Regarding skin health, some studies suggest trehalose can be a beneficial ingredient in topical skincare for hydration. As a dietary supplement, we recommend starting with the suggested serving of 5g (approx. 1 teaspoon) daily. For specific health goals, we always advise consulting with a healthcare professional.

Question 3

Is it good for baking and cooking? Does it brown or caramelize?

Accepted Answer

Yes! A major advantage noted by home bakers is trehalose's high heat stability. It won't break down or lose sweetness when heated, making it excellent for sauces, baking, and canning. However, it does not caramelize like sugar. So while it will sweeten your cookies beautifully, it won't give you the same golden-brown crust that sucrose does.

Question 4

The price seems high. Is it worth it compared to other sweeteners?

Accepted Answer

This is a common point discussed online. Trehalose is a premium, functionally unique ingredient. If your primary goal is maximum sweetness for the lowest cost, a blend like erythritol/monk fruit might be more economical. The value in our trehalose powder comes from its clean taste, digestive tolerance for sensitive individuals, metabolic properties, and culinary stability. It's a specialty product for specific dietary and cooking needs.

Question 5

Does it have an aftertaste, and how well does it dissolve?

Accepted Answer

Users consistently praise its clean, sugar-like taste with no bitter or metallic aftertaste common in some artificial sweeteners. It dissolves well, but like many pure powders, it can clump if exposed to moisture. For best results in cold drinks, we recommend mixing it with a small amount of warm liquid first or using a blender. Storing it in a cool, dry place with the lid tightly sealed will prevent clumping.
