Question 1

Does the Cuisinart Smashed Burger Press actually prevent sticking, or will I need to oil it every time?

Accepted Answer

Many first-time users discovered the hard way that the stainless steel surface grabs onto raw meat like glue. A quick brush of oil on the press—or a sheet of parchment paper between the meat and press—makes a world of difference. Once you get into that rhythm, it works exactly like the TikTok and YouTube demos promise.

Question 2

I use jumbo brioche buns. Will this press create patties that fit?

Accepted Answer

That’s the most common sizing question we hear. The press makes patties roughly 5 inches across—perfect for standard supermarket buns, but a bit snug for jumbo or artisan bakery rolls. If you love oversized buns, you might end up with patties that look more like a slider than a full quarter-pounder. A few Reddit users solved this by pressing the meat flatter than usual, stretching the diameter slightly.

Question 3

How durable is the handle? I’ve seen complaints about it loosening over time.

Accepted Answer

You’re right to ask. A handful of reviewers mentioned the handle starting to wobble after a few months of regular use. The good news: it’s easy to tighten the small screw at the base with a simple screwdriver. For heavy daily use, some home cooks prefer a one-piece cast iron press instead. For occasional weekend BBQ sessions, the handle holds up just fine.

Question 4

Can I put this in the dishwasher, or will it damage the handle?

Accepted Answer

The stainless steel press plate is dishwasher-safe, but the handle isn’t. Hand-washing is recommended to avoid water getting into the handle joint and potentially loosening it over time. A quick rinse and wipe dry generally takes less than 30 seconds anyway.

Question 5

Is this press only useful for smash burgers, or can I use it for other things?

Accepted Answer

Honestly, it's a one-trick pony—but it does that one trick beautifully. It’s designed for smashing burger patties thin for that crispy, lacy crust. Some creative cooks use it to press bacon flat while cooking, or even to weight down paninis. But if you’re looking for a general-purpose kitchen tool, you’re better off with a sturdy spatula or a adjustable burger press. This one shines when you want smash burgers and nothing else.
