Question 1

Does this switch reliably support 4K at 144Hz as advertised?

Accepted Answer

While the hardware is technically capable, user experiences vary. Many users achieve stable 4K@144Hz, but some report occasional signal dropouts at the maximum refresh rate. For absolute stability, especially over long periods, several Reddit threads suggest running at 4K@120Hz. Using high-quality, certified DisplayPort 1.4 cables is essential for best performance.

Question 2

Is the external USB power connection mandatory, or is it "plug and play"?

Accepted Answer

It is highly recommended to use the included USB cable for power. While it may work without it for some lower-resolution setups, nearly all user feedback indicates that external power is required for consistent operation, especially when driving high resolutions and refresh rates or multiple monitors simultaneously. Relying on bus power alone often leads to instability.

Question 3

I've seen reviews mentioning it stops working after a few months. What's the warranty and support like?

Accepted Answer

The product comes with a standard manufacturer's warranty. However, a common pain point mentioned in reviews is difficulty contacting customer support. We strongly recommend purchasing through a reputable retailer (like Amazon) that manages its own returns and customer service, as this provides a more straightforward path for assistance or replacement within the return window if you encounter issues.

Question 4

Who is this switch best suited for, and who should consider a different option?

Accepted Answer

This switch is a great cost-effective solution for home users and hobbyists who need to share a high-performance PC between 2-3 monitors and are comfortable with a potential gamble on long-term durability. Professionals, streamers, or anyone whose workflow depends on 100% uptime should consider investing in a premium-brand switch from manufacturers like Cable Matters or StarTech, as noted by users who regretted not spending more initially.

Question 5

What's the most important tip for setting this up to avoid problems?

Accepted Answer

The #1 tip from the community is: Do not use old or cheap cables. This switch demands high-bandwidth DisplayPort 1.4 cables to function correctly. Ensure all cables (input and outputs) are certified for the resolution and refresh rate you're targeting. Secondly, connect the USB power cable to a stable source before anything else. Many "don't buy this" posts on forums traced their issues back to insufficient cables or power.
