Question 1

How much activated carbon should I use, and does it come with instructions?

Accepted Answer

The bag includes general guidance, but many users — especially on Reddit — suggest starting with 1–2 tablespoons per gallon for spirit polishing and adjusting based on taste. For aquarium or water filtration, follow your filter's recommendations. When in doubt, start small; you can always add more, but overdosing can strip desirable flavors or minerals.

Question 2

Is this safe for drinking water and spirits, or is it just for aquariums?

Accepted Answer

It's food-grade coconut shell carbon, so it's suitable for consumable liquids like spirits and drinking water, as well as aquarium use. That said, always rinse it thoroughly first to remove fine dust, and if you're using it for drinking water, confirm your setup meets local safety guidelines. Many YouTube reviewers use it across all three applications without issue.

Question 3

Will the granules clog my filter, and how fine are they?

Accepted Answer

The granules are small-to-medium — fine enough for effective adsorption but not so fine that they typically clog standard filter media bags. Aquarium hobbyists recommend using a mesh bag or filter cartridge to contain them. If you're used to pelletized carbon, expect a slightly finer texture and rinse carefully to avoid dust.

Question 4

How long does it last, and can I reuse or reactivate it?

Accepted Answer

Most users replace it every 2–4 weeks for aquariums and after 1–3 uses for spirits, depending on volume. While some people try oven reactivation, results are inconsistent — coconut carbon loses porosity over time. For reliable performance, treat it as a consumable and buy in bulk if you use it regularly.

Question 5

What if it doesn't work for my setup — can I return it?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the product falls under standard platform return policies, so if it's unused and within the return window, you can send it back. That said, most negative feedback stems from mismatched expectations (like granule size or dosage), not defects. If you're unsure, check the Q&A or reach out to the seller before buying — they're generally responsive.
