Question 1

The timer feels complicated to set up. Is there a simple way to just use it as a countdown timer without programming on/off cycles?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the countdown mode is actually the easiest feature. After plugging it in, press the “TIMER” button until “COUNTDOWN” appears on screen, then use the hour and minute buttons to set how long you want the socket to stay on. It will automatically turn off when time runs out. Many TikTok users recommend doing this first before trying the more advanced cycle programming.

Question 2

Will this block the second socket on my wall outlet? I live in a UK flat with standard double sockets.

Accepted Answer

It depends on your socket spacing. The plug is roughly 6cm wide, which can sometimes cover the lower socket if your outlets are mounted close together. For tight spaces, consider using it in the upper socket or pairing it with a short extension lead. Several buyers on Reddit have shared this as their workaround.

Question 3

What happens if the power goes out—do I lose my timer settings?

Accepted Answer

The unit has an internal backup battery that should keep the time and programs saved during short outages. However, some users have reported the battery drains after a few weeks or months. If settings are lost, you’ll need to reprogram it. For critical schedules (e.g., aquarium lights), you may want to test this feature right after purchase.

Question 4

Can I use this with a 2000W heater or kettle?

Accepted Answer

The timer is rated for 13A at 240V, which covers most household appliances up to about 3120W. However, for high-wattage devices that run continuously (like space heaters), we recommend staying well under the limit and using quality appliances. Avoid using it with electric fires or induction cooktops that have large startup surges.

Question 5

I’m not very tech-savvy—is there a simpler alternative?

Accepted Answer

If you only need a basic 24-hour on/off schedule (e.g., turning a lamp on at 7pm and off at 11pm), the ORIDGET works great once programmed. But if you’re looking for a physical knob you can twist, consider a mechanical 24-hour timer (like the Brennenstuhl brand). They’re slightly less precise but much more intuitive. For full app control and voice commands, a Wi-Fi smart plug might be worth the extra £10–15.
