Question 1

Is the 96% layout difficult to get used to, and is it good for productivity?

Accepted Answer

The transition is smoother than you might think! The RK S98 retains the number pad while shrinking the overall size by removing a few rarely-used keys (like Insert). Most productivity users, especially those who work with spreadsheets or data entry, love it. The main adjustment is using a function layer for the navigation cluster (Home, End, etc.). Many Reddit reviewers said they adapted within a day or two and now prefer the more compact footprint.

Question 2

How is the real-world battery life, especially with the RGB and smart display on?

Accepted Answer

With the RGB and smart display at full brightness, expect to charge every 1-2 weeks with heavy use. Turning the lighting off or to a low static color extends this dramatically—many users report a month or more. The "massive battery" is legit, but as some TikTok sound test videos have shown, the display and RGB are the biggest power draws. For the longest life, you can customize the display to turn off when not in use via the software.

Question 3

I keep hearing about the software and stabilizers. Are there real issues?

Accepted Answer

These are the most common points for improvement. The companion software works for deep customization but has a learning curve and can feel unpolished. The stabilizers (especially the spacebar) may benefit from a simple lubing kit for a perfect, rattle-free sound—a popular first mod in the enthusiast community. The good news? The core build quality (case, mounting style, connectivity) is consistently praised as excellent. Think of it as a fantastic foundation you can optionally tune to perfection.

Question 4

Is this keyboard suitable for Mac users, and is the software safe to install?

Accepted Answer

Yes, it works seamlessly with Macs over Bluetooth or USB-C. The keycaps have standard Windows legends, but the function keys (like volume control) work on macOS. As for the software, it is safe to download from the official RK website. While necessary for reprogramming keys or the smart display, it's not needed for daily use. Many users set it up once and then uninstall it, which is a common workaround mentioned in forums for those wary of background processes.

Question 5

Who would you say this keyboard is NOT for?

Accepted Answer

It might not be the best fit for two types of buyers: 1) Ultra-competitive gamers who require absolute, zero-compromise wireless latency (the 2.4G is great for most, but hardcore esports players often prefer wired). 2) Those who want a completely hassle-free, out-of-box experience without any tinkering. If the idea of potentially tweaking software or doing a minor stabilizer mod sounds frustrating, a simpler pre-built from brands like Keychron could be a better match. For everyone else—especially value-seeking enthusiasts and productivity pros—it's a top-tier contender.
