Question 1

Will this 30W solar panel charge my phone quickly on an overcast day or while hiking?

Accepted Answer

It depends on sunlight. In direct, full sun, the panel can output close to 30W—enough to fast-charge most phones. However, on cloudy days or while walking (where the angle shifts), output drops significantly. Many users find it works best when placed flat in direct sunlight. For steady charging on the trail, we recommend pairing it with a power bank so you’re not relying on live solar input.

Question 2

Can I use it to charge a laptop or a power station like a Jackery?

Accepted Answer

The 5V USB-A and USB-C ports are designed for phones, tablets, power banks, and other small devices (up to 3A total). It will not charge a laptop directly—most laptops require 45W–65W. It can slowly top off a small power station (e.g., Jackery 240) over many hours in strong sun, but it’s not ideal for that purpose. A higher-wattage panel (60W+) would be better for laptops or larger batteries.

Question 3

Is this truly waterproof? I see it’s rated IPX5.

Accepted Answer

IPX5 means it’s protected against low-pressure water jets (like light rain or splashes), but it’s not designed to be submerged or left in heavy downpours. The USB port cover is splash-resistant, not waterproof. We recommend storing it dry when not in use, and avoid leaving it out in extended rain. Many TikTok users have noted this distinction—great for camping, but keep it covered in wet weather.

Question 4

How long does it take to fully charge a typical 10,000mAh power bank?

Accepted Answer

In optimal direct sunlight (panel angled toward the sun), it takes roughly 5–7 hours to fully charge a 10,000mAh power bank. On a partly cloudy day, expect 8–10 hours. For faster charging, we suggest charging the power bank during peak sun hours (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) and keeping the panel stationary.

Question 5

Is this panel good for backpacking, or is it too heavy/bulky?

Accepted Answer

Weighing about 1.2 lbs (540g), it’s fine for casual camping or car camping where weight isn’t critical. But for multi-day backpacking trips where every ounce matters, some hikers find it a bit heavy. It folds down into a compact size, but it’s not considered ultralight. If you’re a serious backpacker, you might prefer a lighter option like the Big Blue 28W (around 0.8 lbs). For weekend car camping or RV use, the SOLUPUP is a solid choice.
