Question 1

How accurate is the live wire (AC) detection feature? Should I trust it for electrical safety?

Accepted Answer

While the scanner excels at finding wood studs and metal, feedback from users indicates the AC detection can be inconsistent. We recommend it as a helpful preliminary tool, but you should always confirm with a dedicated non-contact voltage tester before drilling or cutting into any wall for absolute safety. It's best for avoiding wires, not for precise electrical work.

Question 2

I've heard about calibration issues and false positives. How do I get accurate readings?

Accepted Answer

Proper calibration is key! Many YouTube tutorials stress placing the device on a known "clear" spot of wall (away from any outlets) and holding it flat until it beeps. If it's beeping erratically, try fresh batteries and ensure you're not over metal framing or lathe. For thick plaster walls, using the "Deep Scan" mode and moving slowly often yields better results.

Question 3

Is this suitable for a complete beginner, or is it overkill?

Accepted Answer

It's actually a great tool for beginners! The LCD display and audio alarm provide clear, multi-sensory feedback that's easier to interpret than just a light or simple beep. Most happy customers are DIYers using it for tasks like mounting TVs, shelves, or artwork. If you just need to find studs, it's a reliable upgrade from the "knock test."

Question 4

What's the real durability and warranty like? Some reviews mention it feels lightweight.

Accepted Answer

The scanner is designed to be a lightweight, handheld tool for home use. While it's durable enough for typical DIY projects, it may not withstand daily professional job site conditions. It comes with a standard 1-year warranty. If you experience any issues with the LCD or calibration, our support team is available to help with troubleshooting or warranty claims.

Question 5

How does this compare to a basic magnetic stud finder or more expensive brands?

Accepted Answer

This scanner offers more features than a basic magnetic finder (which only detects nails/screws in studs) by sensing the density of wood and metal behind the wall. Compared to higher-end models from brands like Franklin Sensors, it provides excellent value for casual use but may not match their depth consistency or advanced filtering. For simple stud-finding, it's highly effective; for complex renovation work with live wires, professionals might prefer a specialized tool.
