Question 1

Will this drive work with my smartphone or tablet without extra cables?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the included YOTUO drive comes with both USB 3.0 and USB-C cables, so most modern phones and tablets can connect directly. A heads-up from some TikTok reviews: certain Android phones may not provide enough power through their ports, so your device will need to support USB OTG (On-The-Go). If the drive isn’t recognized, check that your phone’s OTG setting is enabled. For iPhones with Lightning ports, you’ll need an Apple Camera Adapter.

Question 2

The ad says 500GB, but my computer shows only 465GB – is something wrong?

Accepted Answer

No, this is standard across all hard drives and not a defect. Manufacturers define 1GB as 1,000,000,000 bytes, while computers use a base-2 system (1GB = 1,073,741,824 bytes). That difference accounts for the “missing” 35GB. Many Reddit users pointed this out, so rest assured your drive is the correct capacity. It’s pre-formatted for Windows but can be reformatted for Mac without issue.

Question 3

Can I play Xbox One/PS4 games directly from this external HDD?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely – this drive is compatible with both consoles via USB 3.0. For Xbox One and Series X|S, you can store and play backward-compatible titles directly. For PS4, games install and run from the drive smoothly. One note from gamers: load times will be similar to an internal HDD, not an SSD, so don’t expect lightning-fast loading. For storing large game libraries on a budget, this is a solid choice.

Question 4

How durable is this drive? I’ve heard reports of it breaking after a few months.

Accepted Answer

We understand the concern. While the majority of buyers (over 3,500 ratings averaging 4.4 stars) report reliable use, some users on YouTube have noted that the plastic casing feels less rugged than premium drives. It’s best treated as a “desk drive” – fine for occasional travel in a padded laptop bag, but not designed for heavy drops or daily backpack tossing. The 1-year manufacturer warranty covers defects, and many users improve longevity by using a cheap silicone case for extra shock protection.

Question 5

Is this drive worth the money compared to a portable SSD?

Accepted Answer

It depends on what you value. If your priority is affordable backup for photos, documents, and movies, this YOTUO drive offers great storage per dollar – often half the price of a similarly-sized SSD. However, if you need ultrafast file transfers, rugged build, or plan to edit video directly from the drive, consider a portable SSD like the Samsung T7. Many budget-conscious students and home users on social media say this HDD is perfect for “set-it-and-forget-it” backups, while power users recommend paying more for speed and durability.
