Question 1

Does the Black Shark FunCooler 5 have to be plugged into a wall, or can I use a power bank?

Accepted Answer

The cooler requires a constant USB-C power source—it doesn’t have a built-in battery. A standard 5V/2A power bank works perfectly, which is what most gamers use on the go. Just be aware that this means managing two cables (one for your phone, one for the cooler). While this is a common trade-off for high-performance magnetic coolers, it’s a key detail to consider if you prefer a fully wireless setup.

Question 2

Will the magnet work with my Android phone or a thick case?

Accepted Answer

The built-in magnet is calibrated for Apple’s MagSafe standard. For Android phones or devices inside a thick case, the box includes a metal adhesive ring. However, many TikTok users noted that even with the ring, the hold is not as strong as a direct MagSafe connection. If you play high-motion games, we recommend applying the ring directly to the phone (not the case) for a more secure grip.

Question 3

I’ve seen comments about noise. Is it loud enough to be distracting during gaming?

Accepted Answer

In "Quiet Mode," the fan is very subdued and easily drowns out by game audio. The criticism comes from "Boost Mode," which is necessary to cool down a phone that’s already severely overheating. In that setting, the fan becomes a noticeable whir. Think of it like a laptop fan—you don't hear it until you really push the hardware.

Question 4

Is this cooler just a gimmick, or does it actually help with frame rates on a hot phone?

Accepted Answer

It’s surprisingly effective. The fan and semiconductor cooler drastically reduce the phone's backplate temperature, which directly prevents the processor from throttling. Many Reddit users confirmed that the cooler extends high-performance gaming sessions by preventing screen dimming and lag. It's not a gimmick—it works—but its value depends on whether you play graphically intense games like Genshin Impact or Call of Duty Mobile for long periods.

Question 5

What about condensation? Can the cooler get wet and damage my phone?

Accepted Answer

Yes, condensation can form on the cold contact plate in humid environments. Black Shark includes a warning about this in the manual. To be safe, avoid using the cooler in very muggy rooms (like a steamy car). If you notice moisture, simply wipe it off immediately. Most users report no issues, but it’s a standard concern for any phone cooler using thermoelectric cooling (Peltier technology).
