Question 1

I'm a total beginner at making Ethernet cables. Is this kit a good place to start?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely! This is one of the most recommended kits for beginners on forums like Reddit. The included "pass-through" RJ45 connectors are much easier to use than traditional ones because the wires go straight through the end, making alignment simple before you crimp. While the instructions are basic, a quick YouTube search for "EZ RJ45 crimp" will show you exactly how it's done. The all-in-one nature means you have everything to learn and practice with.

Question 2

How reliable is the crimper tool itself? I've seen some mixed reviews.

Accepted Answer

The vast majority of users report the crimper works perfectly for home and occasional use. However, like many budget-friendly tools, there can be rare unit-to-unit quality variance. The main issue reported is a failure to cleanly cut the excess wires from the pass-through connectors. Our advice is to test it as soon as you receive it. If you get a defective unit, Amazon's return/replacement process is straightforward. For heavy, daily professional use, a commercial-grade crimper is recommended.

Question 3

What's included in the kit, and is the cable tester any good?

Accepted Answer

You get the RJ45 crimper, a mini cable stripper, a basic network tester, 50 Cat6 pass-through connectors, and 50 rubber boots. It's a fantastic value bundle. The tester is a simple continuity checker—it verifies each wire is connected correctly and identifies basic faults like shorts or mis-wires. It's great for DIY jobs. As many TikTok reviewers note, it is *not* a advanced cable certifier that measures speed or performance, but it's perfectly adequate for ensuring your homemade cables work.

Question 4

Can I use this crimper with standard (non-pass-through) RJ45 connectors?

Accepted Answer

No, this specific crimper is designed for "EZ" or pass-through style connectors only, as it has a blade to trim the excess wire. Using it with standard connectors won't work correctly. The kit includes 50 pass-through connectors, which are widely available to purchase separately. If you already own a stock of standard connectors, you would need a different crimping tool.

Question 5

Is this kit suitable for professional Cat6 installation work?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the volume. For light commercial or occasional professional jobs, it performs well and is a great backup kit. However, many professional installers on YouTube and forums state that for high-volume, daily use where absolute reliability is critical, they prefer to invest in a more expensive, brand-name crimper from companies like Klein or Paige. This Brileine kit is best suited for DIYers, students, IT hobbyists, and techs who don't crimp cables every single day.
