Question 1

Is this generator actually quiet enough for campground use?

Accepted Answer

Most users find it quiet enough for campgrounds and tailgating, with noise around 58–62 dB—similar to a normal conversation. However, if you need whisper-quiet operation for sleeping next to it, some Reddit users suggest it’s closer to a loud lawnmower on propane. On a soft surface like grass, it runs quieter than on a hard deck or gravel.

Question 2

Can it run my RV air conditioner on propane?

Accepted Answer

It depends on your AC unit’s starting wattage. The PowerSmart delivers about 3,200 watts peak on propane (vs. 3,800 on gas). Many RVers report it handles 13,500 BTU AC units fine, but larger units may cause it to struggle. Check your AC’s surge wattage in the manual first—TikTok reviewers recommend testing at home before your trip.

Question 3

Will the CO sensor shut it off if I use it under an awning or in a semi-enclosed space?

Accepted Answer

Yes, and that’s by design for safety. Several buyers mentioned the sensor tripped when the generator was placed under an RV awning or in a garage with the door open. For reliable operation, keep it at least 10 feet from any enclosure and in open air. If it keeps cutting out, move it to a more ventilated spot.

Question 4

Does it come with everything needed to run on propane right out of the box?

Accepted Answer

It includes a propane hose and a regulator, so you can connect a standard 20-pound tank immediately. You’ll need to supply your own propane tank and engine oil (the first oil change is recommended after 5 hours of break-in). Many YouTube unboxings confirm no extra purchases are required to get started on propane.

Question 5

How does it compare to a Honda or Champion generator for home backup?

Accepted Answer

For the price—roughly half of a comparable Honda—the PowerSmart is an excellent value for occasional home backup, camping, or tailgating. It starts reliably and runs efficiently on propane. However, if noise level or dealer service network is your top priority, Champion offers a competitive alternative with a better wheel kit, and Honda remains the gold standard for whisper-quiet operation. Most users happy with this unit accept the trade-off for the lower cost and dual fuel flexibility.
