Question 1

Will this solar panel work with my Google Nest Cam if I have the wired version instead of the battery one?

Accepted Answer

This panel is designed specifically for the Google Nest Cam (Battery) and the Nest Cam Outdoor or Indoor (Battery) models. It won’t power or charge the wired Nest Cam or Nest Cam IQ, since those don’t have a removable battery. Check the bottom of your camera — if it has a USB-C port for charging, you’re good. If it’s hardwired, this isn’t the right fit.

Question 2

My camera is mounted under an eave and doesn’t get direct sun all day — will this still keep it charged?

Accepted Answer

It depends on your sun exposure. In direct sun, this 5W panel will easily keep your camera topped up. But many TikTok users and reviewers note that in partial shade or cloudy climates, the charging may just slow the battery drain rather than fully maintain it. For shaded spots, consider angling the panel toward the brightest patch of sky, or upgrading to a 6W+ panel if you have heavy camera activity.

Question 3

Is the 13-foot cable long enough for typical installations, and can I extend it?

Accepted Answer

13 feet works well if your camera is near a roof edge or on a wall with good sun exposure. However, if your camera is mounted far from the roofline or you have a complex route (around windows or gutters), you might fall short. You can’t easily extend this cable since it’s permanently attached to the panel. Measure your ideal path before buying — and if you need more length, look for a panel with a 20ft+ cable.

Question 4

I live in a rainy area — is the IP65 waterproof rating enough to last more than one season?

Accepted Answer

The panel itself handles rain and snow just fine, but several long-term users report moisture creeping into the USB connection point after several months. The IP65 rating means the main unit is dust-tight and protected against low-pressure water jets, but the connector isn’t sealed. A simple fix: many Reddit users add a small silicone cover or electrical tape around the connection for extra peace of mind.

Question 5

Will this overcharge my Nest Cam battery and damage it over time?

Accepted Answer

No — the panel simply supplies power when available, and the Nest Cam’s internal battery management system handles charging control. Once the battery is full, it stops drawing power just like when you plug it into a wall charger. No risk of overcharging. Thousands of users have run these panels for over a year with no battery issues, so you can set them up and forget them.
