Question 1

Does this trap really catch mosquitoes, or is it mainly for fruit flies and gnats?

Accepted Answer

Most users find the Katchy works best on fruit flies and gnats in small, dark spaces. Many TikTok and Reddit reviewers note it rarely catches mosquitoes—the fan isn't strong enough to pull them in. If mosquitoes are your main concern, you might be disappointed. For fruit flies around a compost bin or plant corner, it's a solid choice.

Question 2

How long does the fan last before it starts making noise or stops working?

Accepted Answer

The fan is the most common point of failure. Based on buyer feedback, many units run quietly for the first month or two, then develop a rattling sound or lose suction. A few users report theirs lasting six months. To extend its life, keep the fan area clean and avoid running it in humid environments like bathrooms.

Question 3

Are the replacement sticky pads expensive, and do I have to keep buying them?

Accepted Answer

Yes, you'll need to replace the sticky pads every 3–4 weeks, and they cost around $10–15 for a pack of 6. Some users feel the recurring cost adds up quickly. If you're handy, a few people on YouTube have shared DIY hacks using double-sided tape to save money, but the official refills work best.

Question 4

How loud is it? Can I sleep with it on in my bedroom?

Accepted Answer

On the lowest fan setting, it's quite quiet—similar to a soft whisper or a laptop fan. However, some reviewers mention the UV light can be bright in a pitch-black room. If you're a light sleeper, try placing it across the room or covering the light with tape. The noise level is generally fine for sleeping, but the light may bother some.

Question 5

Is it worth the money, or should I just use a homemade trap?

Accepted Answer

For targeted gnat and fruit fly problems in a small room, it's a convenient upgrade from DIY vinegar traps—no smell, no mess, and it catches more consistently. But many buyers on forums say basic sticky traps or apple cider vinegar jars work just as well for a fraction of the cost. If you have a serious infestation and want a no-fuss solution, the Katchy is worth trying. For casual use, save your money.
