Question 1

How bright is the backlight? Can I read it in a dark basement?

Accepted Answer

The backlight is sufficient for dim environments but won't compete with direct sunlight or very dark corners. Many TikTok users recommend keeping a small flashlight nearby if you're monitoring appliances in an unlit basement or closet. It stays on for roughly 10 seconds after your last button press—long enough to jot down a reading, but not continuously lit.

Question 2

Will this work with my air conditioner, space heater, or refrigerator?

Accepted Answer

Yes, for steady-state operation up to 15 amps (1800W on 120V). However, some Reddit users report the overload protection can trip prematurely on devices with high startup surges—like fridge compressors or window AC units when they first kick on. A good rule: if your appliance's nameplate says more than 15A, skip this plug. For typical household devices, it'll be fine.

Question 3

How accurate is the wattage reading compared to my electric bill?

Accepted Answer

This is a solid consumer-grade meter, not a laboratory instrument. Many users compare its readings to their utility meter and find it accurate within 2-3% for continuous loads (heaters, lights, chargers). For very low standby power under 1W, readings can be less consistent. Reddit threads suggest using it as a comparison tool (Device A vs Device B) rather than an absolute billing calculator.

Question 4

I keep pressing the button but can't figure out what each mode means. Is there a guide?

Accepted Answer

You're not alone—this is the #1 complaint across social media. The 7 modes cycle in this order: Wattage → Voltage → Amps → Frequency → Power Factor → Cumulative kWh → Cost (if you set your rate). The mode button on the front cycles through; holding it for 3 seconds resets cumulative data. Many beginners suggest sticking with just the Wattage mode (mode 1) and ignoring the rest until you're comfortable.

Question 5

What happens if my device draws more than the plug is rated for?

Accepted Answer

The overload protection kicks in when current exceeds 15 amps, cutting power to the plugged-in device and showing "OVERLOAD" on the display. This protects both the meter and your appliance from damage. A few buyers on YouTube note that the alarm can be triggered by brief startup surges even if the running current is fine—if that happens, you'll need a higher-rated monitor for that particular device. No damage occurs to the meter itself.
