Question 1

Will this bulb actually keep bugs away, or is that just marketing?

Accepted Answer

It works, but the effect is more about reducing attraction than active repelling. Many Reddit users with covered porches and patios say it draws far fewer moths and mosquitoes than standard warm-white bulbs. The yellow tint is less visible to insects, so they won’t swarm your light—but don’t expect it to replace a bug zapper for heavy-infested areas.

Question 2

How yellow is “yellow”? I don’t want my porch to look like a caution sign.

Accepted Answer

It’s a deep amber—think sunset glow, not highlighter yellow. TikTok reviewers often describe it as “cozy” and “easy on the eyes” for evening hangouts, though some note it’s too dim for reading or detailed tasks. If you want brighter bug deterrence, consider the 100-watt equivalent version.

Question 3

Can I use this in a fully enclosed light fixture, like a glass globe?

Accepted Answer

Yes, but keep an eye on heat. While the bulb runs cooler than incandescent options, a few buyers with fully enclosed fixtures mentioned it felt warmer than expected. It’s generally safe, but for maximum lifespan, a well-ventilated fixture is better—especially in humid climates.

Question 4

Why isn’t it dimmable? I saw LED and assumed it would work with my dimmer switch.

Accepted Answer

A common frustration, and a fair point. This specific Feit model is non-dimmable, so it’ll run at full brightness (or not at all) on a dimmer switch. If dimming is a must, check out the dimmable version or the GE bug light, which is compatible with most standard dimmers. Always double-check the product specs before buying.

Question 5

Is the “22-year lifetime” claim real, or will it die in a year?

Accepted Answer

That rating is based on 3 hours of daily use, not 24/7 operation. In real-world conditions, most users report 2–5 years of reliable service on a covered porch. For outdoor fixtures exposed to rain or extreme temperature swings, expect a shorter lifespan—some users saw failures after 8–12 months. It’s good value for the price, but treat the “22-year” figure as a best-case lab scenario.
