Question 1

Does this alcohol have any smell, and will it affect my fragrance?

Accepted Answer

It has the clean, sharp scent of pure ethanol when first applied, which evaporates completely within seconds. This is what "neutral scent" means in perfumery. Many users on forums like Reddit confirm it leaves zero residual odor, allowing your fragrance oils to be the sole star of the show.

Question 2

I'm new to this. Is this the right alcohol for my perfume oils, and how do I use it?

Accepted Answer

Yes, SDA 40B is the industry-standard solvent for fine fragrance. It's specifically designed to blend perfectly with perfume oils without clouding. A common tip from experienced makers is to add your concentrates to the alcohol slowly while stirring, not the other way around, for the clearest mixture.

Question 3

What's the bottle like, and should I be concerned about shipping?

Accepted Answer

The product comes in a sturdy 16oz glass bottle. While the alcohol itself is highly praised, some customers have noted the cap can sometimes be prone to minor leaks during transit. We recommend storing it upright and checking it upon arrival. For long-term storage, many hobbyists suggest transferring it to a glass bottle with a tighter seal.

Question 4

How does this compare to using vodka or isopropyl alcohol from the store?

Accepted Answer

There's no comparison for quality results. Vodka contains water and congeners that can spoil and distort scent. Isopropyl alcohol has a strong, lingering medicinal odor. SDA 40B is 200-proof, specially denatured for perfumery, and evaporates cleanly. TikTok and YouTube creators often show side-by-side tests where the difference in final product clarity and scent purity is dramatic.

Question 5

Is the 16oz size good for a beginner, and what's the shelf life?

Accepted Answer

The 16oz size is excellent for beginners who are committed to learning. It allows for ample experimentation and batch-making. If you're only looking to make a single, small bottle, it may be more than you need. Once opened, shelf life is long (years) if stored tightly sealed in a cool, dark place to prevent evaporation and moisture absorption.
