Question 1

Is this flashlight truly 365nm, and is it good for hunting uranium glass or minerals?

Accepted Answer

Yes, it emits 365nm wavelength light. It's a fantastic, bright entry-point for new collectors and works well for spotting uranium glass in a dark room. However, experienced rockhounds on forums like Reddit often note that while powerful, its beam isn't as pure or finely focusable as dedicated hobbyist lights (like the Convoy S2+), which can make very faint fluorescence harder to see.

Question 2

How durable is it, and what's the warranty like?

Accepted Answer

The DARKDAWN is praised for being powerful yet compact, but some users report the build quality is typical for its price point. The USB-C port can be a point of failure if not treated gently. It comes with a standard limited warranty. For heavy, daily use, a more rugged light might be a better investment, but for occasional home and hobby use, most find it holds up well.

Question 3

I need it for pet stains. Does it really work, and is it safe around my dog/cat?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. This is one of its most popular and effective uses. The high intensity makes old urine stains glow brightly. Important Safety Note: While effective, you should avoid shining any bright UV light directly into your or your pet's eyes. Brief, indirect scanning of surfaces is the recommended and safe method.

Question 4

What's the deal with the adjustable focus? I've seen mixed reviews.

Accepted Answer

The focus ring adjusts the beam from a flood to a more concentrated spot. Some users love this versatility, while others (particularly on YouTube review channels) feel the "focused" spot isn't as sharp as they'd like for ultra-detailed inspection. Think of it as a useful general-purpose feature rather than a precision tool. For most tasks like stain detection or checking glass, both beam settings are very effective.

Question 5

How long does the battery last, and can I use it while it's charging?

Accepted Answer

On the highest setting, expect about 45-60 minutes of continuous use. On lower settings, it lasts significantly longer. It features a built-in, USB-C rechargeable battery for convenience. A common tip from users is that the charging indicator light can be subtle—it's best to charge it fully before first use. Note that it is not designed for passthrough charging (using it while plugged in).
