Question 1

How long can it run continuously before overheating?

Accepted Answer

The Locksworth 8-Sheet is designed for intermittent home use. It can run for about 2–3 minutes (roughly 15–20 sheets) before a 15-20 minute cooldown is needed. If you need to shred more than 50 pages at a time, you may want to look at larger models with longer duty cycles.

Question 2

Is it actually quiet enough for a shared home office?

Accepted Answer

Many TikTok reviewers note it’s quieter than industrial shredders, but it’s not silent. At around 55–60 decibels, it’s comparable to a hair dryer on low. It’s fine for a private room but could disturb someone in a nearby workspace, especially during calls.

Question 3

The bin is only 4 gallons – how often will I need to empty it?

Accepted Answer

Because micro-cut paper compacts into a fluffy volume, you’ll likely empty the bin after shredding about 30–40 sheets. The transparent window helps you see when it’s getting full. For light home use, that means emptying once or twice a week.

Question 4

Will it jam with stapled documents or credit cards?

Accepted Answer

It handles single staples and standard credit cards without issue. However, thick cardstock or documents with multiple staples (e.g., near the corner) may cause jams. If a jam occurs, the reverse function usually clears it. For heavy staple loads, remove staples first.

Question 5

Is this good for sensitive documents, or should I get a more secure model?

Accepted Answer

P-4 micro-cut security means it shreds paper into 4mm x 12mm particles – suitable for personal financial documents, medical records, and confidential mail. For top-secret government-grade materials (P-5 or P-6), you’d need a higher-tier shredder. For home office identity theft protection, the P-4 level is plenty.
