Question 1

Is the Arcturus blanket soft, or does it have a rough texture?

Accepted Answer

It's best described as durable and warm rather than plush. The wool-blend fabric is substantial and has a sturdy, classic wool texture. Many users love its rugged feel for outdoor use, but if you're looking for a supersoft blanket for direct skin comfort, you might find it scratchy. For indoor couch use, some owners recommend using it over a softer sheet.

Question 2

I've heard about a strong smell when it arrives. Is that true, and how do I fix it?

Accepted Answer

Yes, many reviewers on Reddit and YouTube note a distinct "wooly" or factory odor upon unboxing. This is common with untreated wool blends and is not a defect. The good news is it dissipates quickly. Simply air the blanket outside or in a well-ventilated room for 24-48 hours. After its first wash (following the care instructions), the smell is typically gone completely.

Question 3

Will this blanket shrink or get damaged in the wash?

Accepted Answer

It is machine washable, but care is crucial to maintain its size and texture. Always use cold water on a gentle cycle and air dry. Using heat (hot water or a dryer) is the most common reason for shrinkage and stiffening, as mentioned in many customer reviews. Following the care tag instructions will keep your blanket in great shape for years.

Question 4

Is this suitable for backpacking or hiking trips?

Accepted Answer

Due to its substantial weight and bulk, it's generally not recommended for ultralight backpacking. Where it shines is for car camping, picnics, stadium events, or in your vehicle emergency kit. Owners consistently praise its warmth and durability in these scenarios. If your main goal is to minimize pack weight, a specialized backpacking quilt would be a better alternative.

Question 5

How does this compare to a cheaper stadium blanket?

Accepted Answer

The key difference is in materials and durability. The Arcturus blanket is a thick, wool-blend fabric, while typical stadium blankets are often thin polyester fleece. This makes the Arcturus significantly warmer, more wind-resistant, and far more durable for rugged use. It's an investment in a long-lasting utility blanket, whereas a cheaper option is often a disposable, season-only item.
