Question 1

Are these lids compatible with my existing Ball or Kerr mason jars?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. These wide-mouth lids and rings are designed to the standard industry specifications and are fully compatible with all standard wide-mouth Ball, Kerr, and other major brand mason jars. They thread and seal perfectly.

Question 2

Can I reuse these lids for multiple canning sessions?

Accepted Answer

For safety and best results, these are intended for single-use during the actual canning (preserving) process. The sealing compound is designed to form one reliable vacuum seal. However, many users on canning forums successfully reuse them for non-canning purposes like storing dry goods, crafts, or in the fridge after opening—just not for reprocessing in a water bath or pressure canner.

Question 3

I've heard some bands can rust. How durable are they?

Accepted Answer

The bands are made of sturdy, coated steel. The vast majority arrive in perfect condition and perform well. It's important to note that *all* metal canning bands can develop surface rust if stored while damp. A common tip from experienced users is to ensure bands are thoroughly dried after washing and stored in a dry place. For those in very humid climates, some opt for stainless steel bands for long-term storage.

Question 4

How does the sealing reliability compare to store-bought name brands?

Accepted Answer

Based on thousands of reviews, the sealing performance is excellent and comparable to major brands when proper canning techniques are used. With an average rating of 4.6 stars, most users report 11 out of 12 or more lids sealing perfectly per box. As with any consumable lid, there is a very small chance of a random defect, which is why testing seals after processing is always recommended.

Question 5

Who would benefit most from buying this set?

Accepted Answer

This set is a fantastic value for home canners who go through many lids, such as those preserving garden harvests or making large batches of jams and salsas. It's also perfect for anyone who gives canned goods as gifts, as you won't worry about getting your lids back. If you primarily want lids for organizing dry goods, crafts, or refrigerator storage, they work wonderfully for that too.
