Question 1

Will these earpads affect the auto-pause or proximity sensor on my WH-1000XM4?

Accepted Answer

They might. Due to their added thickness, some users report the sensor can be partially blocked, causing music to pause unexpectedly when adjusting the headphones. If you use this feature constantly, it's a consideration. Many users, however, find the trade-off for superior comfort acceptable and simply adjust how they handle their headphones.

Question 2

How do they compare to the original Sony pads in terms of comfort and fit?

Accepted Answer

Based on over 1,200 reviews, most users find them equally or more comfortable than the originals, especially for glasses wearers due to the plush, thicker memory foam. The fit is consistently praised as perfect and secure, snapping right into the original housing. A small break-in period is sometimes noted for optimal softness.

Question 3

What is the material, and how durable are they?

Accepted Answer

They are made from synthetic protein leather over noise-isolation foam. While most users report good durability for daily use, a minority in humid climates or with heavy usage have seen signs of peeling after 6-12 months. They represent excellent value for the price but may not match the multi-year lifespan of OEM pads in all conditions.

Question 4

Are they easy to install? What if I damage my headphones?

Accepted Answer

Yes, installation is frequently highlighted as very easy. The package includes a plastic pry tool that safely helps unclip the old pads and snap the new ones in. There's minimal risk to your headphones if you follow the process. Numerous YouTube tutorials confirm the simplicity, often taking under 5 minutes.

Question 5

Who would you say these replacement pads are NOT ideal for?

Accepted Answer

They might not be the best fit for two types of users: 1) Perfectionists reliant on auto-pause, as the sensor can be temperamental, and 2) Those seeking genuine leather or decades-long durability. They are ideal, however, for the vast majority of owners looking to restore comfort and noise isolation at a great value.
