Question 1

Is this kit suitable for setting grommets in real leather or thicker materials like vinyl?

Accepted Answer

This kit is designed for light-duty crafts. It performs excellently on materials like paper, thin cotton, felt, and lightweight leather (garment weight). However, based on numerous user reports, it can struggle with thicker leather (over 3oz), heavy vinyl, or multiple fabric layers. For those materials, a bench-mounted or heavy-duty press is recommended.

Question 2

I'm confused by the "803 Pcs" description. What exactly am I getting?

Accepted Answer

Great question! The count refers primarily to the 800 metal eyelets included (400 pairs). The "kit" itself consists of the core tools: the hand press pliers, a hole punch, a plastic setting mat, and a small wrench. Many TikTok and Reddit users have highlighted this, so it's best to think of it as a starter set with a large supply of eyelets for practice and small projects.

Question 3

How durable are the pliers? I've seen comments about them bending.

Accepted Answer

The pliers are made of cast metal and are sufficient for their intended light-duty use. The most common issue, mentioned in reviews, is that the alignment pins on the anvil can bend if excessive force is applied on materials that are too thick. For consistent results on appropriate materials, apply firm, steady pressure rather than sudden force. It's a fantastic beginner tool but not built for industrial use.

Question 4

Are the 1/4" eyelets a standard size? Can I use refills from other brands?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the eyelets follow the common 1/4" (6.4mm inner diameter) A.I.S. standard. You should be able to use replacement 1/4" eyelets from other major craft brands. Many users on crafting forums mix and match colors from other kits once their initial supply runs low.

Question 5

Who is this kit the best fit for, and who should look for something else?

Accepted Answer

This kit is a perfect and affordable starter set for crafters, cosplay beginners, parents, and DIYers working with paper, thin fabrics, or lightweight leather for projects like banners, lace, or simple bags. If your projects involve thick leather, canvas, sails, or high-volume production, you'll likely be frustrated and should consider a more robust, professional-grade press from the start. The overwhelmingly positive reviews come from users whose expectations matched this light-duty purpose.
