Question 1

Is the included case made of real leather?

Accepted Answer

Based on extensive user feedback, the case is best described as a durable synthetic leather (pleather). While it's well-constructed and effectively organizes the set, buyers looking for genuine leather often purchase a separate case. The included case is praised for its compactness and protective quality, but the material itself is a common point of clarification.

Question 2

How durable are the pencils, and do the thin leads (like 0.3mm) break easily?

Accepted Answer

The pencils have a solid, all-metal construction that users find very durable for everyday use. Regarding lead breakage: the 0.3mm pencil, while excellent for ultra-fine detail, is more prone to breakage if handled with heavy pressure—a trait common to most 0.3mm mechanisms. Many artists on platforms like TikTok recommend using a lighter touch, high-quality lead refills, and advancing the lead in smaller increments to minimize breaks.

Question 3

Who is this set really best suited for?

Accepted Answer

This set is a fantastic, value-packed toolkit for serious hobbyists, art students, and professionals like illustrators or architects who actively use multiple lead grades and sizes in their workflow. It's also a popular gift. However, if you're a casual note-taker or doodler who only needs one pencil, you might find it overwhelming. In that case, a single high-quality mechanical pencil may be a better fit.

Question 4

What are the common "cons" or weak points I should know about?

Accepted Answer

Honest reviews from users typically mention three things: 1) The included erasers are considered low-quality and ineffective for detailed work—plan to use your own preferred eraser. 2) The sharpener on the end of the 2mm lead holder is serviceable but basic. 3) A small number of users report slight tip wobble on some units, though this doesn't affect most sketching and drawing applications.

Question 5

How does this set compare to buying individual pencils from brands like Rotring or Pentel?

Accepted Answer

This set excels in variety and value. For the price of one or two premium-brand pencils, you get a complete range of sizes and lead types. Brands like Rotring are often praised for flawless precision and heft, making them favorites for dedicated drafting. The Nicpro set offers 80% of that premium feel at a fraction of the cost per pencil, making it an ideal "starter studio" or portable kit. If you need one perfect, rock-solid pencil for a single task, a dedicated brand is great. If you want versatile tools to cover all bases, this set is highly regarded.
