Question 1

What temperature range can this infrared thermometer measure?

Accepted Answer

The manufacturer states a surface temperature range of -58°F to 1796°F (-50°C to 980°C), with a stated accuracy of about +/- 2% on average.

Question 2

What is the distance-to-spot ratio and what is it useful for?

Accepted Answer

It has a 50:1 distance-to-spot ratio, which the listing says suits cooking, pizza ovens, grilling, HVAC, vehicle maintenance, home inspection, and industrial uses like aluminum alloy, ceramic stoves, and metal castings.

Question 3

Is it easy to use?

Accepted Answer

Reviewers describe it as easy to use, and one notes the unit turns on with the trigger, has a bigger and brighter display than other infrared thermometers, and locks the reading when the trigger is released.

Question 4

How accurate is it?

Accepted Answer

Reviews are mixed: some call it very accurate or quite precise, while others report it being a couple of degrees less accurate than an older unit and readings that jumped around and fluctuated, especially at higher temperatures or on difficult surfaces.

Question 5

Does it work for high-temperature tasks like forge or molten metal work?

Accepted Answer

One reviewer says it works very well for checking the temperature of steel in the forge, but another found it hard to reach a desired lead-casting melt temperature (550-750°F) due to fluctuating readings.
