Question 1

Is this truck truly ready-to-run, or will I need to build and upgrade it right away?

Accepted Answer

It comes mostly assembled and includes everything you need to drive, making it "Ready-to-Run" in that sense. However, the RC community views it as an excellent *platform*. Many users enjoy it stock on moderate terrain, but it's famously popular for customization. Think of it as a great starting point where future upgrades like metal axles or grippier tires can enhance its performance as your skills grow.

Question 2

I'm new to RC crawling. Is this a good choice for a complete beginner?

Accepted Answer

Yes, with the right expectations. It's praised as a fantastic, affordable entry into the hobby. Its simple design makes it easy to learn basic driving and maintenance. Just be aware it's a hobby-grade model, not a indestructible toy. Driving with care over very rough terrain and learning about potential weak points (like the plastic axles) will lead to a much more satisfying experience. Many YouTube tutorials feature this truck as a perfect beginner project.

Question 3

What are the most common parts that might need upgrading, and are they easy to find?

Accepted Answer

Based on frequent user feedback, the first upgrades people often consider are softer, grippier tires (the stock ones can be slick) and metal axles or steering links for increased durability on rocks. The good news is that the WPL C64 has strong aftermarket support. A quick online search will reveal many compatible upgrade parts from WPL and third-party brands, making it easy to strengthen the truck over time.

Question 4

How does the WPL C64 compare to something like an Axial SCX24?

Accepted Answer

The SCX24 is generally more refined and durable out-of-the-box, with a massive aftermarket, but it also costs more. The WPL C64 wins on initial value and modding potential for the price. Think of it this way: if you want a premium, near-perfect mini crawler immediately, save for the SCX24. If you're budget-conscious and love the idea of learning through incremental upgrades, the C64 offers incredible fun and education for your money. Many hobbyists own both!

Question 5

What's included, and how long can I expect the batteries to last on a charge?

Accepted Answer

The truck comes fully assembled with a transmitter, a 7.4V NiMH battery for the truck, a separate battery for the transmitter, and a basic wall charger. On a full charge, the included truck battery typically provides 20-30 minutes of run time, depending on terrain. This is great for getting started. As you use it more, many users upgrade to higher-capacity LiPo batteries and a better charger for longer play sessions, but the included kit gives you everything needed to start driving right away.
