Question 1

What's the real-world range like, especially through walls?

Accepted Answer

While the product is rated for an 80ft range in open air, real-world use through walls and obstructions will reduce this. Most users report a reliable range of 20-40ft through one or two interior walls, which is sufficient for turning on a PC from another room or across a large office. It's not designed for whole-house coverage.

Question 2

Is this safe for my computer, and how difficult is the installation?

Accepted Answer

Yes, it's designed to safely interrupt the low-voltage signal from your case's power button, not the main AC power. Installation is straightforward for most: you connect the receiver unit to a spare 4-pin Molex connector from your power supply and the existing power button cables. As noted in many YouTube tutorials, the trickiest part can be finding a spare Molex cable if your power supply is modular.

Question 3

Can I use this to turn my computer ON, or just shut it down?

Accepted Answer

You can do both! It functions as a wireless replica of your physical PC power button. A short press will turn your PC on from a completely off state (as long as the PSU main switch is on), and a short press while Windows is running will initiate the standard shutdown process, just like your case button.

Question 4

I want to schedule startups or use voice control. Is this the right product?

Accepted Answer

This is a common point of confusion. This is a simple hardware remote, not a smart device. It cannot schedule tasks or connect to Alexa/Google Home. If you need scheduled power cycles or voice control, a Wi-Fi smart plug paired with a BIOS setting for "AC Power Restart" is a better alternative, though more complex to set up.

Question 5

What if it stops working after a few months?

Accepted Answer

The vast majority of units are reliable, but as with any electronic device, there is a small chance of failure. We recommend purchasing from a retailer with a good return policy. If issues arise after the return window, many Reddit users have had success contacting the seller directly for a replacement, as the product often comes with a manufacturer's warranty.
