Question 1

Is this keyboard compatible with Mac, and do I need to use VIA software for basic functionality?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the MONSGEEK M2 V5 works natively with Mac out of the box for standard typing and media keys. VIA software is only needed if you want to remap keys, create macros, or change RGB lighting patterns. Many TikTok users mention that once you get past the initial setup (which takes about 15–30 minutes), VIA is incredibly intuitive for customizing your layout.

Question 2

How long does the 8000 mAh battery actually last with RGB lighting on?

Accepted Answer

Real-world testing shows about 2–3 weeks of heavy daily use (8–10 hours) with RGB on full brightness, and up to 6 weeks with RGB off or set to a low brightness profile. The keyboard automatically enters sleep mode after 10 minutes of inactivity, which helps conserve battery. Charging takes roughly 4 hours via USB-C.

Question 3

I've heard the sound is "clacky"—is that good or bad, and can I change it?

Accepted Answer

The clacky sound is actually a plus for most mechanical keyboard enthusiasts—it provides crisp, satisfying auditory feedback for each keystroke. However, if you prefer a deeper, thockier tone, you can easily swap the included Stellar Rose switches for any MX-compatible switch (the keyboard is hot-swappable). Adding keyboard foam or a desk mat underneath can also deepen the sound profile significantly.

Question 4

Does the black piano finish show fingerprints, and how do I keep it clean?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the glossy black piano finish does attract fingerprints and smudges more than matte surfaces. Many Reddit users recommend keeping a microfiber cloth on your desk for quick wipes. For deeper cleaning, use a slightly damp cloth (never wet) with mild soap, then dry immediately. Some users also apply a matte vinyl skin to reduce smudging while keeping the premium look.

Question 5

How do I return this if I don't like it, and is it worth the price for a first-time mechanical keyboard buyer?

Accepted Answer

Returns are handled through the retailer you purchased from (Amazon, MONSGEEK official store, etc.), with a standard 30-day return window for unused items. As for value—at this price point, you're getting an aluminum case, hot-swappable switches, a massive 8000 mAh battery, and VIA support that rivals keyboards costing twice as much. We'd recommend it for anyone who's already done some research on mechanical keyboards. If you're completely new and want a simpler setup, a pre-configured plastic keyboard might be less intimidating first.
