Question 1

I own the WH-1000XM4 or XM5. Are the XM6 worth upgrading to?

Accepted Answer

This is a common question from our community. The consensus among tech reviewers and users is that the XM6 offers meaningful but incremental improvements. The noise cancellation and call quality are noticeably better, and the sound is more refined. However, if your current headphones are still working well, the upgrade may not feel revolutionary. Many suggest the jump is most worthwhile for XM4 owners or if you can find a good deal on the XM6.

Question 2

Are they comfortable for all-day wear, especially for people with larger heads or who wear glasses?

Accepted Answer

The XM6 are widely praised for their lightweight design and plush ear cushions, making them exceptionally comfortable for most users. However, a small number of people with larger head sizes or who wear thick-frame glasses have mentioned feeling a bit more clamping pressure during very long sessions (3+ hours). If you fall into that category, it's a good idea to check the return policy, as comfort is very personal.

Question 3

How is the call quality and microphone performance in noisy environments?

Accepted Answer

Sony has significantly improved the microphone system with the XM6. They use advanced AI noise reduction for your voice. Feedback from remote workers and travelers indicates that callers can hear you clearly even in moderately loud settings like coffee shops or airports. While not quite as crystal-clear as a dedicated headset in a silent room, they are considered best-in-class for Bluetooth headphones in noisy conditions.

Question 4

I've heard the case is tight. Is it a problem, and does it affect durability?

Accepted Answer

You're right, this is a frequent mention on social media. The new, slimmer case does require a specific folding technique and can feel snug. While it protects the headphones well, some users find it less convenient than previous models. Importantly, there are no widespread reports of the case itself or the headphones' hinges being damaged by the fit—it's more of a usability nuance than a durability flaw.

Question 5

The default sound seems very bass-heavy. Can I adjust it?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely, and many audio enthusiasts recommend it! The XM6 are engineered to deliver powerful bass out of the box, which is great for pop and electronic music. To experience their full, balanced potential across all genres, we highly recommend using the free Sony Headphones Connect app. Its customizable equalizer is powerful and easy to use, allowing you to tailor the sound profile perfectly to your taste, revealing the detailed, studio-quality audio these headphones are capable of.
