Question 1

Is this card actually new, or is it a refurbished mining GPU?

Accepted Answer

This is a common and valid concern. MOUGOL sources and tests components to offer a functional budget card. While it is sold as new, some users on forums have reported signs of previous use, like minor wear. The card comes with a warranty, but if receiving a perfectly pristine, retail-sealed product is your priority, you may want to consider a brand-new card from a major manufacturer, though at a higher price point.

Question 2

Will this RX 580 work with my older PC, and what power supply do I need?

Accepted Answer

For compatibility, you'll need a PCIe x16 slot (even version 2.0 is fine), an available 8-pin PCIe power connector from your Power Supply Unit (PSU), and enough physical space in your case. A 500W PSU from a reputable brand is the recommended minimum. Many Reddit users have successfully installed this in older Dell or HP office computers, but always double-check your PSU specs and case clearance first.

Question 3

I've heard about fan issues. How reliable is the cooling, and is it loud?

Accepted Answer

The dual-fan design is generally adequate for cooling the RX 580. However, a recurring point in user reviews is that one fan can sometimes fail or become noisy over time. Many tech-savvy buyers immediately set a custom fan curve via software like MSI Afterburner for better control. If you're sensitive to noise or unwilling to potentially troubleshoot fans, this is a factor to consider.

Question 4

What kind of gaming performance can I realistically expect?

Accepted Answer

Manage your expectations: this is a champion of 1080p budget gaming. You can smoothly run esports titles like Valorant, Apex Legends, and Fortnite at medium-to-high settings. For newer, demanding AAA games like Cyberpunk 2077, you'll need to use low-to-medium settings for playable frame rates. It is not designed for high-refresh-rate 1440p or 4K gaming.

Question 5

Is this the best value choice, or should I consider something else?

Accepted Answer

For its price, the RX 580 offers remarkable entry-level performance. It's perfect for building a first PC or upgrading an old one on a strict budget. However, if you can stretch your budget, the AMD RX 6600 is a frequently suggested alternative on tech forums, offering significantly better performance and power efficiency for modern games. If you're comfortable with the used market, a GTX 1070 is also a strong competitor in this price tier.
