Question 1

Will this hub work with my M4 or M5 MacBook Air, and can I charge my laptop through it?

Accepted Answer

Yes, it’s fully compatible with M4 and M5 MacBook Air models, as well as most MacBook Pros from 2016 onward. The hub supports pass-through charging up to 100W, so you can plug your MacBook’s USB-C charger into the hub’s dedicated power port and keep your laptop topped up while using all other data ports simultaneously.

Question 2

I see “Thunderbolt 4 compatible” in the title—does that mean I get 40Gbps speeds on the USB ports?

Accepted Answer

This is a common point of confusion! The hub is designed to work with Thunderbolt 4 ports, but the two USB-A ports and the secondary USB-C port support up to 5Gbps (USB 3.0 speed). The 4K@60Hz HDMI output is where the high bandwidth matters most. If you need 40Gbps file transfers, you’d want a full Thunderbolt 4 dock—this is more of a reliable everyday hub for most tasks.

Question 3

I’ve heard the HDMI port can feel loose over time—should I be worried about durability?

Accepted Answer

A small number of users on Reddit and TikTok have mentioned the HDMI port feeling slightly wobbly after several months of frequent plugging and unplugging. That said, the vast majority of reviews (over 3,300 at 4.5 stars) report solid build quality for daily use. If you do have an issue, Anker’s customer support is known for quick replacements, and the hub comes with a standard warranty.

Question 4

Does this hub support 4K at 60Hz on all monitors, or are there compatibility issues?

Accepted Answer

It works perfectly with most monitors that accept 4K@60Hz over HDMI, including popular models from LG, Samsung, and Dell. Some users have hit snags with older monitors or non-standard USB-C displays that require a specific handshake. If your monitor is from 2018 or later and supports HDMI 2.0, you should be good. A quick compatibility check on Anker’s website can confirm for your specific model.

Question 5

I’m a student on a budget—is this hub good value, or should I save up for something more expensive?

Accepted Answer

For students and most everyday users, this is excellent value. It’s compact, portable, and covers the basics: HDMI output, USB-A ports for a mouse and flash drive, and USB-C for charging and data. It consistently beats pricier alternatives in portability and ease of use. If you need an ethernet port or blazing-fast file transfers, you might want to look at the CalDigit SOHO—but for 9 out of 10 users, this hub does the job at half the price.
