Question 1

Does the built-in preamp cause a humming noise, and can I bypass it?

Accepted Answer

A small number of users report a low hum, especially when connected to certain receivers. You can easily bypass the built-in preamp by flipping the switch on the back to "PHONO" and connecting an external preamp (like the ones from Schiit or Art DJ). This often eliminates the noise and improves sound quality—many Reddit users recommend doing this for a cleaner audio path.

Question 2

How easy is it to convert my vinyl to digital via USB?

Accepted Answer

It’s straightforward once you have the right software. The turntable connects via USB-B to your computer, and most people use free software like Audacity (available for both Windows and Mac). Some TikTok users noted initial confusion with audio levels—just set your recording volume to about 70% and test a few seconds first. The included software guide helps, but a quick YouTube tutorial can save time.

Question 3

Is this turntable safe for my expensive or rare vinyl records?

Accepted Answer

Yes, but with a caveat. The AT-LP120XUSB uses an adjustable counterweight and anti-skate dial—if you set these correctly for your cartridge (around 2 grams tracking force for the stock cartridge), it’s gentle on records. However, forum users caution that the anti-skate calibration can be imprecise, so buying a $10 stylus force gauge is a smart move to ensure proper tracking.

Question 4

Can I connect this turntable to Bluetooth speakers or a vintage receiver?

Accepted Answer

The turntable itself does not have Bluetooth—it offers RCA and USB outputs. For Bluetooth speakers, you’ll need a separate Bluetooth transmitter connected to the RCA jacks. For a vintage receiver without a phono input, use the built-in preamp (set switch to "LINE") and connect via RCA; many owners report great results doing this.

Question 5

I’ve seen mixed reviews on build quality—what should I check after unboxing?

Accepted Answer

Most units arrive flawless, but a small percentage have minor QC issues. After unboxing, check that the platter spins evenly (no wobble), the RCA jacks are snug, and the tonearm moves freely without scraping. If anything seems off, Audio-Technica’s customer support is responsive, and Amazon/eBay sellers typically accept returns within 30 days. YouTube videos can help you spot common defects before your return window closes.
