Question 1

Will these spikes keep squirrels and raccoons away?

Accepted Answer

Based on extensive user feedback, these spikes are highly effective for birds and cats, but their performance against squirrels and raccoons is inconsistent. Determined squirrels and raccoons may bend or step over the plastic spikes. For these heavier, clever pests, many reviewers suggest more robust solutions like metal mesh or heavier-duty metal spike strips.

Question 2

How do I install these so they actually stay put?

Accepted Answer

The included adhesive strips provide a basic hold, but for a permanent, weatherproof installation—especially on rough surfaces like wood or in extreme temperatures—we strongly recommend supplementing with outdoor-rated silicone caulk, liquid nails, or small screws. This is a common "pro tip" shared by experienced users on DIY forums.

Question 3

Are the spikes truly clear and invisible?

Accepted Answer

The spikes are made of transparent plastic, which makes them less obvious than black ones. However, from a distance, they can have a visible "bristly" appearance on your surface. They are a discreet deterrent, but manage expectations—they are a functional product designed to be seen by pests, not completely invisible to the human eye.

Question 4

Is the plastic durable, or will it break and yellow outside?

Accepted Answer

The PVC plastic is durable for its purpose but can become brittle in very cold weather, so handle with care during winter installation. While UV-resistant, some yellowing may occur over several years of direct, intense sun exposure. For long-term durability in harsh climates, some users ultimately upgrade to polycarbonate or metal spikes.

Question 5

What's the best use case for this product? Who is it really for?

Accepted Answer

These spikes are an excellent, affordable solution for homeowners and renters looking to humanely deter perching birds (pigeons, doves) and cats from specific areas like fence tops, window ledges, garage doors, or balcony railings. They are less suited for stopping persistent digging or climbing from heavy wildlife like raccoons.
