Question 1

How do I know if the #5 size is right for my zipper?

Accepted Answer

The #5 refers to the width of the zipper teeth in millimeters. The best way to check is to measure the old, broken slider's width at its widest point. If it's roughly 5mm (about the width of a standard pencil lead), this kit is compatible. Many reviewers on TikTok suggest measuring first, as a common issue is ordering the wrong size for smaller jean zippers.

Question 2

Is this kit suitable for both metal and plastic/coil zippers?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the sliders in this kit are designed to work with both standard metal teeth and nylon coil zippers, making them versatile for repairing coats, jackets, backpacks, and luggage. However, some users note that the installation on delicate nylon coils can be trickier and requires extra care to avoid damaging the teeth.

Question 3

How easy is it to install? Do I need special tools?

Accepted Answer

Most DIYers find the process manageable with basic household tools. You'll likely need a small pair of pliers to remove the old top stop and to crimp the new one securely. The key is patience—inserting the pin into the new slider can be fiddly. As one Reddit user put it, "It's a 10-minute job if you go slow, not a 2-minute miracle."

Question 4

Are the replacement parts durable, or do they feel cheap?

Accepted Answer

The parts are functional and effective for cost-effective repairs, saving items from being discarded. While they get the job done, some users mention that the metal finish might not be as polished as an original high-end zipper, and the plastic stops are serviceable. For heavy daily use on items like a work backpack, you might notice a difference in feel over time.

Question 5

What if it doesn't fit or I can't complete the repair?

Accepted Answer

We recommend double-checking the sizing guide before purchase. If you encounter issues, please contact customer service. While this kit has helped many successfully repair their gear, a common sentiment in reviews is that for valuable or complex items, taking it to a professional tailor or cobbler is a reliable alternative for a seamless fix.
