Question 1

Is the installation truly DIY, and will it fit my door?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the X95 is designed for DIY installation and comes with a detailed template. However, based on user reviews, success depends on your door's existing cutout. We recommend carefully comparing the provided measurement guide with your current deadbolt setup. Most standard US doors are compatible, but doors with non-standard backset or thickness may require minor adjustments. Many YouTube DIYers have shared successful installation videos.

Question 2

How reliable are the 3D Face ID and fingerprint unlock in real-world use?

Accepted Answer

The fingerprint sensor is consistently praised as the fastest and most reliable method, working well for almost all users. The 3D Face ID is advanced but, as noted in some community discussions, performs best in good lighting and when approaching the lock directly. For optimal reliability in all conditions, many users set up both fingerprint and Face ID, or use fingerprint/PIN as their primary method.

Question 3

What happens if the batteries die or there's a power outage?

Accepted Answer

The lock uses 8 AA batteries, typically lasting over a year. You'll get a low-battery warning in the app. If the batteries die completely, you can use the provided mechanical key or power the lock temporarily via the 9V battery terminals on the front panel using a standard 9V battery. The internal mechanism is mechanical, so a general power outage won't lock you out.

Question 4

Do I need to buy a separate gateway or hub for it to work?

Accepted Answer

No, a major benefit of the X95 is that it operates as a standalone Bluetooth lock. You can use all features (unlocking via app, managing codes, checking logs) directly through the Golens app when your phone is nearby. An *optional* Wi-Fi gateway is available for true remote access and voice control, but it's not required for core functionality.

Question 5

How is the durability and what if a part fails?

Accepted Answer

The lock is built with a zinc alloy faceplate and a robust motor, giving it a solid, premium feel that users appreciate. While component failures are not common, a small number of early reviews mentioned issues like a fingerprint sensor needing replacement. Golens is noted for its responsive customer support and typically provides troubleshooting help or replacement parts under warranty, which is a strong point highlighted in many reviews.
