Question 1

How reliable is the fingerprint scanner for everyday use? I've heard they can be finicky.

Accepted Answer

For most primary users, it's highly reliable and fast. However, based on user feedback, those with very dry skin, calloused fingers, or who frequently have dirty hands (e.g., from gardening) may experience occasional failed reads. It's a good practice to register the same finger 2-3 times in slightly different positions for the best results. The lock also provides key and app backup for those rare moments.

Question 2

What's the real-world battery life, and what happens if they die?

Accepted Answer

With regular use (2-4 entries per day), most users report changing the 4 AA batteries every 6-9 months. The lock gives audible low-battery warnings. If the batteries die completely, you can use the included physical keys to unlock the door, and then replace the batteries from the inside. Many TikTok users recommend setting a calendar reminder to check batteries every 6 months to avoid surprises.

Question 3

Is the installation truly DIY-friendly, and will it fit my door?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the vast majority of installs are straightforward DIY projects taking 20-30 minutes with a screwdriver and the included template. It's designed to fit standard US residential doors (1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inches thick). The main hiccup some Reddit users mentioned is with doors at the very upper limit of thickness, which might require a minor adjustment to the strike plate—a simple fix with sandpaper.

Question 4

Can I give temporary access to guests or service people without giving them a fingerprint or key?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. Through the companion app, you can generate unique, temporary PIN codes for guests, cleaners, or dog walkers. You can set these codes to be valid for specific dates and times, which is a feature landlords and Airbnb hosts on social media particularly love. This way, you never have to worry about key exchanges or changing the locks afterward.

Question 5

Who is this lock NOT a good fit for?

Accepted Answer

This lock is an excellent value-driven smart lock, but it might not be ideal for: 1) Smart home enthusiasts wanting voice control (like Alexa) or advanced automation—it's primarily app/fingerprint/key. 2) Users in extremely cold climates where lithium battery performance can dip. 3) Those seeking a commercial-grade, heavy-duty finish; it's durable for home use but may show wear over time. If your top priority is flawless fingerprint reads in all conditions, a higher-end biometric lock might be a better, though more expensive, choice.
