Question 1

I'm not very tech-savvy. How difficult is the installation for a beginner?

Accepted Answer

While the kit is designed for DIY installation, it does require basic comfort with low-voltage wiring (connecting wires to terminals) and configuring a device on your Wi-Fi network. Many users with moderate DIY skills have succeeded. The included instructions are technical, but the online customer support is highly praised for walking users through any hurdles. If you've never handled wiring before, you might consider consulting a professional.

Question 2

What hardware is this kit compatible with? Will it work with my existing electric strike or magnetic lock?

Accepted Answer

Yes, this TCP/IP access control board is designed to work with standard 12V DC or 24V DC electric strikes and magnetic locks. The kit includes the necessary power supply. You'll just need to ensure your existing lock falls within those voltage specifications. It's a versatile system suitable for most single-door commercial or residential applications.

Question 3

I've seen comments about the power supply making noise. Is this a common issue?

Accepted Answer

Some users in very quiet environments have noted a faint hum from the metal 110V power supply. This is a characteristic of some transformer-based power supplies and is not indicative of a malfunction. For most installations in areas with ambient noise (e.g., entrances, garages, offices), it's not noticeable. The trade-off is the robust, durable metal casing that provides better protection and heat dissipation than plastic units.

Question 4

How does the system handle a power outage? Is my door going to be stuck locked or unlocked?

Accepted Answer

This is a crucial safety question. The behavior depends on your specific electric strike lock. Most failsafe electric strikes are designed to *unlock* when power is cut (allowing free exit), while fail-secure models *remain locked*. You must check your lock's specifications. The access control board itself has no internal battery backup, so remote app access will be unavailable during an outage until power is restored.

Question 5

Can I manage access for multiple users and see a log of who comes and goes?

Accepted Answer

The primary function of the included app is secure remote unlocking and managing a list of authorized RFID cards/fobs. As noted in some user feedback, the current app version is focused on this core reliability. It does not typically provide advanced, granular features like detailed time-stamped entry logs or complex user permission schedules. If extensive audit trails are a top priority, you may want to research more commercial-grade software options.
