Question 1

Will the Sense-U Smart Sock fit my newborn, or is it only for older babies?

Accepted Answer

The sock is designed for infants weighing 6–18 pounds—roughly newborn to around 6 months. However, parents on TikTok and Reddit have noted that very tiny newborns or extra-chunky babies may struggle with fit. If your baby has delicate ankles or kicks a lot, the sock might slip off. We recommend using the included fit guide and ensuring snug (not tight) placement. For premature babies, it’s worth checking with your pediatrician first.

Question 2

How reliable is the heart rate and movement tracking—should I trust it for overnight monitoring?

Accepted Answer

Most users report accurate heart rate tracking, especially during calm sleep. The sensor uses reflective pulse oximetry, similar to hospital pulse oximeters. However, a small number of reviews mention false alarms, particularly when the sock shifts or if the baby moves vigorously. While it provides useful trend data, we suggest using it as a supplemental monitoring tool—not a substitute for direct supervision or medical devices. Many NICU parents use it successfully for peace of mind, but it’s not FDA-cleared.

Question 3

The app requires a lot of permissions (location, notifications, etc.)—is my data safe, and can I use it without granting everything?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the app does request location access for Bluetooth connectivity and background operation. This is standard for many Bluetooth health devices, but we understand it can feel intrusive. You can deny precise location and still use the sock, but background app refresh must stay on for real-time alerts. Your data is encrypted in transit and stored only for sleep history. If privacy is a top concern, you might consider a camera-based monitor as an alternative.

Question 4

What happens if the sock falls off during the night—will the app alert me?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the app includes an “Awake/Missing Sock” alert if it loses skin contact for more than 20 seconds. That said, parents report that the alert can be delayed or missed if the phone is on silent. Many users double-check by securing the sock with a light pair of pajama pants over it. If your baby is a known sock-kicker, you may want to test the alert system during daytime naps first.

Question 5

Is this monitor worth the price compared to other options like the Owlet Smart Sock?

Accepted Answer

The Sense-U is generally more affordable than the Owlet, and many families find it sufficient for basic heart rate, movement, and sleep tracking. Where Owlet often wins is app polish and fewer connectivity hiccups. If you’re on a budget and okay with occasional Bluetooth reconnects, the Sense-U offers solid value. If you’re looking for a more polished, hospital-grade experience and are willing to pay extra, you might prefer a newer Owlet model or a dedicated audio/video monitor instead.
