Question 1

How loud is the cooling fan during normal use? I’ve seen mixed comments online.

Accepted Answer

At idle, the fan is whisper-quiet — most reviewers barely notice it. However, during RAID resyncs or heavy write loads, the fan ramps up to a noticeable hum. Many Reddit users compare it to a small desk fan on medium speed. If you’re noise-sensitive or plan to run it in a bedroom, consider placing it on a soft surface or in a ventilated closet.

Question 2

Can I mix different brands or capacities of hard drives in the same RAID array?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the enclosure supports mixed drives in JBOD and RAID 0 modes without issue. For RAID 1, 5, or 10, it’s strongly recommended to use identical models and capacities for stability. Some YouTube reviewers reported mode-switching errors when mixing drives, so back up your data before testing new configurations.

Question 3

The trays feel flimsy — will they break over time?

Accepted Answer

The trays are lightweight plastic, but they’re designed for tool-free convenience rather than heavy duty cycles. Most users report no issues with normal use, though a few TikTok clips show cracked tray edges after repeated swaps. Handle them gently when inserting or removing drives, and they should last. If you swap drives daily, consider a metal-tray alternative.

Question 4

I still have USB-A ports on my PC — will this enclosure work out of the box?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. The CENMATE comes with both USB-C and USB-A cables, so it’s ready for modern and older computers. For best performance, plug into a USB 3.0 (blue) port and use the USB-C cable if your device supports it. Several buyers were relieved to report it works flawlessly with USB-A on 2015-era laptops.

Question 5

What’s the return policy if it doesn’t meet my needs?

Accepted Answer

Most sellers offer a 30-day return window, though Amazon and third-party vendors may vary. A few buyers noted slow response times from the manufacturer’s support team; we recommend initiating refunds directly through your purchase platform for faster service. Keep all packaging and cables for hassle-free returns.
